How to log in to Microsoft Teams
A simple, step-by-step guide for new users to log in to the Teams desktop app or web version.
Step-by-step fix · 6 steps
- 1
Find and open the Microsoft Teams app on your laptop. You can look for the Teams icon (a blue 'T' with cartoon people) on your desktop, or type 'Teams' in the Windows search bar at the bottom-left of your screen.
- 2
Type your work email address in the box and click 'Next' or 'Sign In'.
- 3
Enter your work password. Make sure Caps Lock is off to avoid any spelling mistakes.
- 4
Verify the sign-in on your mobile phone if asked. Open the Microsoft Authenticator app on your phone and approve the request, or enter the security code sent to your mobile phone.
- 5
Choose whether to stay signed in. If this is your own work laptop, click 'Yes' or 'OK'. If it is a shared computer, click 'No, sign in to this app only'.
- 6
Wait a few moments for Teams to load your chats, teams, and calendar. If the app shows an error, open Google Chrome, go to teams.microsoft.com, and sign in there to work immediately.
Tip
If the Teams desktop app is ever slow, frozen, or updating, you can always use the web version at teams.microsoft.com in Google Chrome. It works exactly the same way.
